Working Out the Kinks!

I've just found out from an email subscriber that words are sticking together in the email. I am working on this and will try to clear up the problem soon. Sorry.

Writing on My Mind.

Although the year is not over yet and I’m in high gear ensuring my students are prepared for their end of the year test, I have already started thinking about what I will do different next year. I’m going to incorporate a writing notebook. Especially since I will be tackling Common Core next year. The requirements are specific concerning what the end result of a students writing should look like at the end of the year. I will be busy this summer preparing myself. I look forward to it though. I feel like Common Core is going to only make our students better and that’s what we all want right!

Problem and Solution Question Signs

I made these (with the help of my students) to be used in the comprehension center after we have read a story in whole group. My students enjoy working in groups with the text structure signs. Each students is able to ask and answer questions based on the sign. It gives them an opportunity to review the story and a reason to reread the story if needed.

The Beginning

Thank you for visiting my blog. I’m a baby blogger with a love for teaching. I want to provide the best education possible to my students, so this means continuing to be a life long learner. I like to stay abreast of current research and I want to know what Ms. Purdy is doing in her class that works. It’s important to me to dialogue with other educators and I want this blog to be just that a dialogue between teachers, a place where ideas can be shared. Please leave comments, ask questions (maybe someone has the answer), and share ideas.

My Math and Reading Centers

Each Sneaker is 12 inches. I use them with my students to teach measurement (inches, feet, and yards).

These are my reading centers. Students are either assigned a center based on need or can choose freely.

These are my math centers students can work with individually or in small groups.
